Dear Kate-

Hopefully, you will have seen the beautiful remembrances from Mark and Jaime by now. Joan thought of them (M&J)as we went over our own recollections. Mine are sparse, as I was in the Navy from early 1944 and then away at school until 1949. So during all that time I was seldom at home, and the twins were often away at college when I was.

It is also surprising how much the difference in our ages meant. But, none the less... I recall Carol was the busy one. Quiet, but active and reflective at the same time. Not one to say much nor complain. I recall a trip we made as a family circling Lake Michigan. Five of us and a dog in the back of the car. I don't recall her complaining, but do recall her pitching in to set up camp; usually after dark. Dependable, helpful, willing, always there. Upon reflection, I don't believe she got the recognition she had coming. I'm sure she has it now.

Mark and Jamie expressed those traits well. It is a good thing to reflect on the people we have known, all to often after they are gone. But, I'm glad you asked us to do that. I may not find the words, but the thoughts are there, and they are good ones!

Love, Ned
