Chute of Muddy canyon where Music canyon enters
We hiked
Music canyon the day before.
|
Once we are up we decide to descend Quandary canyon.
This is a pleasant and interesting loop. It starts by climbing an old
logging road on the inside of the reef. The road takes you to an interesting
set of canyons/parks in the reef. One of these drainages steppes then
reaches a drop. This is the start of Quandary We descended the easy
upper section which included a couple swims, some intimidating but not
too difficult down climbing, and one moderately difficult-to-exit hole.
Lower Quandary involves multiple difficult pothole drops. We exit to the
left and descend long slabs, eventually dropping back into the main drainage
just before it exits to the outside of the reef. One could turn right
hike over to Muddy Creek and then back up to Hidden Splendor. We turn
left and hike over to Ramp Canyon.
Ramp provides an interesting trip canyon and down layer. About 3/4 of the
way up there a drop which must be ascended on the left face climbing
moderately exposed mid 5th class. Followers can be belayed with some
risk of pendulum. Upper section contains more fun up climbs. Ramp exits
to the inside of the reef and a short walk back to your car.
