I dropped Richard off at Moab for his return to Seattle. Lily, a post student, flew in on the same plane he was to board. We then flew to Hanksville where the rest of the post had just arrived. With all the intermixed travel in various modes I was suprised that we all managed to show up at the designated time and place.
The post camped out at Burr Point for three nights. First day we did one of the split canyons in North wash. Second day we hiked in to Maiden Water then hiked back out because of dark rain clouds hanging around the canyon head. We went down and explored Leprechaun from the bottom to top.
Next day we packed and moved to a camp at Burr Pass. From the name you would think it close to Burr Point but it is not. Burr Pass is on the east side (opposite) of the Dirty Devil river, about 2 hours drive. It provides good access to Blue John and the various forks of Robber's Roost canyons.
Our first night at Burr Pass was cold - down to 17F in my tent at night. We contemplated descending the main fork of Blue John, which would have required swimming. Not long after getting out of the van a decision was made to descent the west fork, which is usually dry.
Canyoneering with Garfield Post. This is the first drop into the west fork of Blue John canyon. The canyon starts with several downclimbs, the most difficult part being the logistics of passing packs. | A Pause.

We had several hundred feet of nice walking narrows. |
On our last day we descended the North Middle Fork of Robber's Roost. This was the first descent for all of us. The guide book said we would have to build rock anchors for all rappells so I had students practice this.
Middle Forl of Robber's Roost Canyon. We may have to build some rock pile anchors so we are practicing. | The technical section ended with a 45 meter rappel.
The canyon just above the rappel. | Turns out that someone had placed bolts. Mostly people were happy to see these but I felt that something of the wildness had been lost.
