Flight Home.

Saturday morning was clear and calm but the weather was forecast to turn. I got off the ground early. Stopped at Green River the Tooele Valley for gas. Due to strong tail winds and smooth air I was making great time. In the Boise area I dodged my first thunderstorms. Stopped in Nampa, a friendly GA airport with a decent restaurant (burger), then continued to Weiser. This is a friendly airport but much more of a rural, working airport. I was invited to spend the night on the couch in the lounge but opted to borrow the car and get a hotel.

Sunday morning weather briefing indicated that the pass between La Grand and the Columbia was closed by clouds and that more weather was moving up from the south. The briefer was not encouraging about the route opening. Then another plane landed. They were heading the same way, saw a lot of blue sky to the north, and though we could fly over the clouds. I fueled up and took off. There were few clouds along the route and I had good access to both Baker City and Le Grand airports. North of there a cloud bank covered the route with tops to 7,000ft. I frequently called Flight Watch to check on weather to the north. The last briefer I talked to said it looked fairly open north of Pasco so I launched out across the clouds. They were right. A brief re-fuel stop in Ellensberg, across Snoqualmie Pass, and I was back in Paine Field where Marie was waiting for me.
