On Wednesday, April 6th, Marie drove me to Paine Field, we loaded the
plane, and I took off for Utah. This was the longest and furthest air trip
I've taken. Only once before have I even crossed the Cascades.

Leaving Seattle. |

Heading for the Mountains. |
First stop: Martin Field near Walla Walla. I generally chose small fields for my stops and always had a very friendly reception. |
With the good weather I was able to fly east from Martin Field, passing north of the Walawa Mountains and flying over the Snake River gorge. |

I spent the first night in Garden Valley, one of the Idaho back country strips. |
Second day, heading south toward the Boise area. |
Crossing snowy ridges toward the Great Salt Lake. |

I stopped in Tooele Valley airport. It was wind blown and unattended but had cheap fuel. This is the pilot lounge. |
To get from the Salt Lake Basin to Southern Utah I followed the highway we normally drive. Below is the rest area we usually stop at and at which I once slept. |
