After my Dark Canyon Trip I met up with Marshal, Tim, and Kim for some canyoneering.
Since my camera's memory cards were full and I didn't much feel like dragging my camera through wet, muddy canyons I didn't take any pictures of this part of the trip. Many were taken by Tim Mats, a professional photographer. You can see these and more on his web site. Others were taken by Marshal.
Late on the first afternoon we started down the canyon. We did one rappel then turned around above a wet pool. On the second day Marshal and I went down the canyon and pulled our rope while Tim and Kim walked around and dropped in above the wet pool. We went through two wet pools, a fair amount of dry canyon, then had to swim another pool. Immediately after that we ran into another deep slot with a pool at the bottom. It was mid afternoon so we decided to turn around. Once out of the canyon we could see that we still had a long way to go. We were able to find routes back in to pick up ropes we had left.
On the second day we dropped mid-canyon, did the deep pool then the deep slot with pool. Beyond that we found some interesting scrambling through large sandstone blocks and then the canyon opened up. We walked about a mile down to the waters of lake Powell.
Next day Marshal and I explored Leprechaun and nearby canyons.
The day we met the students from Post 84 they went and bouldered while I stayed in the car and read a book. See photos of canyoneering in the Swell with Post 84 in that trip gallery
