Day 5: Willis Island

Clark was so nice I was reluctant to move. But we did. It was a short paddle to Willis were we found a very nice camp unoccupied. After setup up camp we toured Dodd, the Tiny Group, and Turtle islands

Day 6: Effingham island.

We paddled from Willis island to Effingham, going around the outside counter clockwise. It was a beautiful paddle with interesting cliffs and a sea arch we paddled through. I didn't bother with my camera so no pictures.

Day 7: Hand island.

On the last day we paddled back to Toquart bay, loaded the cars, and drove back to Seattle, arriving about midnight. It takes 12 hours or so to drive from Toquart to Seattle.

While the broken group was more crowded than some of the more remote trips that I've done it was no not much more crowded than the Bunsbies proper. The big difference was that the Broken group has established camp sites where many parties camp where as other places will generally have one party to a suitable beach. That feels less crowded but distributes the impact over more of the islands and may not be the best thing for the environment. Still, except for the incessant camp fires I never minded the other kayakers.

The Broken group was every bit as beautiful as any other coast line that I've paddled and pretty much as abundant in life too. I was a little disappointed to not see any whales, but seeing the sea lions in their natural environment was one of the highlights of the trip.
